For those of you that know what an indented BOM is this will make perfect sense.

Below is what I have tried and failed at, so it may not be possible to do what I want but I'm sure someone can come up with Plan B.

e.g. C2 will have the formula: =IF(A2=2,F2,').....D2 will have the formula: =IF(A2=3,F3,')
    etc.
So the issue is that the formulas keep the adjoining cells from displaying all of the F column info and will display only what fits into the cell.

    1. Is there a way for all of the information to display across cells with formulas...OR
    2. Using Example 2, below, is there a way to indent the information in the same column (B) by reading column A?

How To Increase An Indent In Excel

Excel Indentation Formula

I would like to apply conditional formatting based on the indentation of text in a cell. I have a chart of accounts in excel, with a parent-child hierarchy. I want to format all top-level parents (i.e. No indentation) with bold (or whatever formatting) then all second-level (i.e. One indent) with italics. Is this possible? Re: Indenting info in cells using a formula. Not that I know of. Excel does not look at the user view of a cell to determine if it's empty and previous cell data can flow over into it. If there is a formula that evaluates to ', Excel still sees this as something in the cell. In Excel there are standard buttons on the menu - under Alignment - that increase or decrease the indent. You just click on it while you're in a cell and it does it. Can't find that in Sheets. Sheets, Chrome OS, Business. Upvote (129) Subscribe Unsubscribe. With MS Excel, cell alignment is how your text or numbers are positioned in the cell. You can align vertically, meaning towards the top, the middle or the bottom. And you can also align. Excel does not look at the user view of a cell to determine if it's empty and previous cell data can flow over into it. If there is a formula that evaluates to ', Excel still sees this as something in the cell. If I understand correctly, you're looking to have a very wide column B (for example) and just indent based on the value in column A?
